Yes. HardieBacker board is often used in bathroom refurbs and is a suitable choice for our Microtopping® for walls and floors.
Yes! We offer two systems for micro cement systems for bathrooms: Microtopping and Ideal Acquavellum.
Microtopping is a water-based, cementitious system, providing an authentic and natural aesthetic with incredible versatility in colour and texture. It is protected from water by effective sealer coats, making Ideal Work Microtopping an excellent choice for bathrooms and wet areas.
Ideal Acquavellum is an acrylic-based product. Similar in appearance to the polished concrete aesthetic, it offers enhanced resistance to water absorption and acts as a waterproof system for super-wet areas, such as shower internals or wet rooms.
Yes! Our systems are designed to be applied over your existing surfaces including existing tiles, so are ideal for refurbishing a bathroom and keeping demolition costs and efforts to a minimum. We may ask you for photos of your tiles to check what additional preparation may be required, for example, loose tiles will need to be fixed to create a stable substrate. Ideal Work offer a range of systems suitable for application on floors in wet areas. For the best anti-slip solution, we recommend a textured Microtopping® finish, or adding an anti-slip additive to the sealer. To find out more about slip ratings, please get in touch.

Definitely! If you like the cement look, then look no further than Ideal Work micro cement! Our Microtopping® system is perfect for stairs. If you are looking for a pre-cast stairs, this can be achieved with our Lixio®+ terrazzo system.
Microtopping & Lixio+ terrazzo significantly simplify concrete stairs. Whereas creating cast concrete stairs is a common route, our micro cement systems provide you with a great deal of flexibility in choice of substrate. Stairs in all shapes and forms can represent a strong statement within your design and our micro cements create seamless transition between different levels and different floor systems. Applied by hand to the treads and risers, our systems are ideal to provide a 2-3mm overlay. Call us for more information or technical advice about details, such as nosings, stringers, and substrates.
Micro cement stairs or steps are generally part of more extensive project including application of Ideal Work systems on walls and floors, so your stairs can be progressed at the same time! Your work schedule will be determined by the number and location of the steps or stairs, overall SQM and chosen aesthetic, so please call us to discuss your project in more detail.
Ideal Work offer a range of systems suitable for application on stairs. For the best anti-slip solution, we recommend a textured Microtopping finish, or our Rasico or Rasico Touch. Alternatively, if you opt for a smooth finish, such as Classic Microtopping, Architop, Lixio or Lixio+, in a commercial setting you may want to retrofit nosing or profiles to improve the slip resistance. As decorative finishes, there are many ways in which Ideal Work systems can be applied to achieve different aesthetic, for example by changing the mixing ratio or the application method itself (trowelled, sprayed, sponged or using decorative rollers and tools).
Yes! Our Barrier Cem and mesh preparation makes Ideal Work wall finishes suitable for application directly onto tiles. The tiles must be secure, and not wobbly or cracked.
Walls should ideally be smooth, prepared as if they were going to be painted. Plastered walls are the best, but Ideal Work wall finishes can also be applied to substrates such as cement board (incl Wediboard, Acquapanel), dry lining and plywood.
Absolutely. Ideal Work micro cement has been used in wet rooms for 25 years, with sealers making the systems waterproof.
Yes! Ideal Work wall finishes are applied by hand and so can be applied onto ceilings, with the same substrate requirements as walls.
A sealer is not always required, but will assist in creating a more durable finish that’s easy to clean. Sealers will also assist in making the finishes more resistant to scratches and staining. All of our sealers are UV stable so will not yellow or discolour over time.

Microtopping® flooring FAQs
The DNA of Ideal Work systems is decorative coverings for floors. Architop®, Rasico®, Lixio® and Lixio®+ behave like a deep-laid concrete or terrazzo floor, whilst the strength of Microtopping® lies in its extreme versatility so, assuming a concrete, tile, or sand and cement screed substrate, will give similar wear and tear as a wooden floor.
Absolutely, yes. It is recommended that the underfloor heating be run through at least three heating cycles to test the substrate’s response to thermal variation prior to application. The underfloor heating must be off during the installation of your Ideal Work floor.
All Ideal Work systems are designed to be applied seamlessly. Joints will only be required if the substrate to which it is being applied has or needs control joints. If your concrete slab has existing cracks, we can advise as to how best to fix these and prevent further cracking before the Ideal Work system is installed. Any control joints will be managing movement in the substrate and must be mirrored in the final finish to prevent any movement along those joints in the substrate causing transfer cracking.
In a word, yes! If you are looking for seamless continuity from inside to out, all Ideal Work systems can be used both internally and externally. For enhanced slip resistance, consider our Rasico® and Rasico® Touch systems, as well as Sassoitalia®, especially designed for outdoor environments.
If you have stained cement floors, or existing floors with any other damage, Ideal Work decorative finishes can be applied directly on top to give new life to the space.
Yes! With Ideal Work Architop®, the power-trowel application method will allow you to replicate an authentic polished concrete floor with burnishing and variegation to create an industrial look.
If you are choosing Ideal Work Microtopping® or Architop®, you will achieve the look of concrete with no concrete polishing and grinding required. Our terrazzo systems, Lixio® and Lixio®+, do require polishing and grinding.
Our micro cement systems Microtopping®, Architop® and Rasico® achieve good slip-resistance, especially when textured. Our Rasico® system is specially designed for outdoor applications, with ice and wet in mind. To see our performance tests, please get in touch.
That’s up to you! The sealers for our micro cement and terrazzo systems determine the level of sheen and are available in glossy, satin, and matt. For guidance as to the best sealer for your project, give us a call.
