EATALY, BISHOPSGATE, LONDON
In 2020, works began in Bishopsgate, Liverpool Street on the Italian food emporium, Eataly. The project formed part of a wider corporate design language rolled out across multiple international sites, combining durability, tactility, and refined decorative concrete aesthetics. Delivery of the project was carried out by Floored Genius.
Working across floors, walls, and architectural features, the scheme integrates multiple Ideal Work systems including Architop®, Purometallo®, and Microtopping®. The result is a layered composition of textures and metallic effects that define the interior with depth, variation, and a distinctly contemporary industrial character.
Architop® was applied to create high-performance cement-based surfaces with a seamless microcement finish, incorporating both roughcast and fine-texture detailing. This provided a robust yet visually dynamic base for the commercial environment, suitable for heavy-footfall hospitality use while maintaining a refined aesthetic.
Purometallo® was rolled onto selected surfaces to introduce metallic richness and reflective texture, enhancing key architectural elements throughout the space. Finishes include pewter tones combined with amber acid stain and ebony acid stain effects, delivering subtle tonal shifts and patinated surface variation. In contrast, iron Purometallo® was worked with a rolled application to build a textured corten-inspired finish, adding depth and industrial character.
Additional Microtopping® detailing was used on feature elements such as bespoke green textured pillar surfaces and seating backs, including roughcast finishes that reinforce the handcrafted quality of the interior scheme. The combination of smooth, textured, and metallic surfaces creates a cohesive yet highly varied spatial experience.
The finished project demonstrates the versatility of Ideal Work decorative systems in delivering globally consistent corporate interiors while still allowing for bespoke, site-specific expression. Durable, seamless, and visually distinctive, the surfaces at Eataly highlight how microcement flooring, metallic coatings, and textured cement finishes can be combined to elevate large-scale commercial retail environments.
This project demonstrates Ideal Work’s expertise in delivering premium decorative concrete solutions for international retail and hospitality brands seeking design consistency, performance, and architectural impact.
