Stairway to Heaven. Feature Staircase, Private House, London
Textured Microcement Staircase for Contemporary Private Residence.
This striking residential staircase in London showcases the versatility of Ideal Work Microtopping® within a highly detailed architectural feature. Installed by Polished Plaster Wimbledon, the project transforms the staircase into a sculptural focal point, combining seamless microcement finishes with integrated lighting and bespoke metalwork to create a refined contemporary interior.
With an Ash White colourway in the distinctive “Pitted One” texture, the staircase introduces depth and tactility while maintaining a clean, monolithic appearance. The subtle textured surface softens the geometry of the sweeping curved form, allowing the staircase to feel both architectural and inviting within the wider residential setting.
The continuous Microtopping® finish wraps seamlessly across the treads, risers and structural elements, enhancing the fluidity of the spiral design while eliminating visible joints or material transitions. Carefully integrated linear lighting beneath each tread emphasises the curvature of the staircase and highlights the textured surface finish, creating a dramatic visual effect throughout the day and evening.
Dark metal balustrades and a rich timber handrail provide contrast against the lighter mineral finish, balancing contemporary detailing with warmth and craftsmanship. The result is a staircase that functions not simply as circulation space, but as a central design statement within the home.
By combining decorative concrete technology with bespoke architectural detailing, the project demonstrates how Microtopping® can be used to deliver seamless, durable and highly individual interior features in luxury residential environments.
