Contemporary Seamless Microcement Finishes for Fashion Retail
Located in the heart of Brixton, London, the BSTN flagship store combines industrial architectural detailing with refined material finishes to create a bold and immersive retail environment. Designed as a contemporary destination for premium streetwear and footwear, the space balances raw structural elements with carefully curated textures and finishes, delivering a retail experience that feels both elevated and authentic.
Ideal Work Microtopping® was specified throughout the project to establish visual continuity across multiple surfaces within the store. Applied in Cement Grey, the seamless microcement finish extends across floors, walls, ceilings and changing room areas, creating a cohesive architectural language that unifies the different retail zones while reinforcing the store’s minimal and industrial-inspired aesthetic.
The continuous Microtopping® surfaces provide a soft tonal appearance with subtle movement and depth, complementing the exposed metal structures, curved stair installation and large-format glazing throughout the interior. The seamless nature of the system enhances the sense of openness within the double-height retail environment while allowing the clothing displays, footwear installations and feature lighting to remain the visual focus.
Particularly striking is the interaction between the monolithic microcement finishes and the sculptural metal staircase that sits at the centre of the store. The restrained palette and uninterrupted surfaces create a clean architectural backdrop that contrasts against the industrial detailing, exposed roof structure and contemporary merchandising elements.
Finished with PU78 Matt sealer, the surfaces provide the durability and performance required for a high-traffic commercial retail setting while maintaining the refined tactile appearance associated with decorative concrete finishes.
BSTN Brixton demonstrates how seamless microcement can be used beyond flooring applications to shape an entire retail interior, creating a contemporary and highly durable environment with strong architectural identity.
