Contemporary Seamless Flooring & Stair Finishes for Residential Communal Interiors
Located in the heart of London’s Clerkenwell district, Defoe Court delivers a refined residential environment defined by clean detailing, durable materials and a restrained contemporary palette. Across the communal areas, circulation spaces and selected amenity interiors, Ideal Work seamless surface systems were specified to create continuity throughout the development while supporting the practical demands of everyday residential use.
Installed by The Micro Cement Company, the scheme combines Nuvolato Architop® and Microtopping® to introduce subtle texture, tonal depth and a calm architectural aesthetic across floors, staircases and shared interior spaces. The result is a cohesive material language that connects the various areas of the building while maintaining a sophisticated, understated appearance.
Within the main reception and staircase areas, Nuvolato Architop® was applied in a bespoke colour, delivering the visual character of cast concrete with the performance benefits of a continuous cementitious finish. The softly mottled surface complements the black metal balustrades, bronze detailing and linear timber wall panelling, helping to create an entrance experience that feels both contemporary and welcoming.
Microtopping® in Olive Grey was used throughout corridors, circulation areas and bathroom spaces, where the seamless finish enhances the sense of light and openness while providing a highly practical low-maintenance surface. The subtle movement within the material adds warmth and texture to otherwise minimal interiors, balancing functionality with a more residential feel.
By combining decorative concrete aesthetics with robust long-term performance, Defoe Court demonstrates how seamless surface finishes can elevate modern communal living environments through consistency, simplicity and carefully considered material design.
